Set Our Hearts Right

To put the world right in order,
we must first put the nation in order;

To put the nation in order,
we must first put the family in order;

To put the family in order,
we must first cultivate our personal life;

We must first set our hearts right.

Yesterday, I lost more of my beloved featherkids, my chickens that are loved and cared for as if they were cats or dogs or any beloved pet friend/family member.

Yes, these three...Little Nell, in the front, Penelope in the middle, and then Matilda...walked right into my dining room at one time. I told them...out, out, out...and one by one..each of them filed out the patio door

All three were killed recently as was Dorothy, the one in the wheelbarrow. Two within a week and two on Friday. Considering I just lost my sister in law of end stage kidney failure, it was almost too much loss to bear.

Out of the four of them two by a dog, and the third, the white, one we are not sure if it was the same escaping dog or a wild animal coming on before she could roost in safety.  The dog has done a lot of things so is supposed to be penned when not with a family member elsewhere or leashed on yard run.

In one year's time, I lost a wonderful sister-in-law, a beloved cat...Tao, a feral Himalayan that we adopted and tamed from near starvation....and 4 of these 6 chickens at the very top. It is So much. Too much.

I cry like my heart is breaking at each and every loss, because it is breaking. But in my heart of hearts I still know that death is a sad part of life. I HAVE To remind myself of that in order to set my own heart right. And that is why, today, I post this poem from and share this post. My heart is in the process of being set right, no matter how much it hurts right now.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dear featherkids. You're right. It is too much. I, too, had featherkids. Raised them from eggs that I hatched in an incubator in my dining room. They were beautiful birds and such loving pets. Until my neighbor's dog came into my yard. Sending you prayers for comfort. Take care!!

Sad and Sorry as each love lost remembers others lost. It is just a crying shame. Getting around death as normal is a huge mountain to climb

I feel so bad for you. Loss is always hard, but to lose pets you love in this manner is so much harder.

I am so sorry for more loss in your life and in such a manner. You are still in my prayers.

We had chickens at one time. Silently, one night they were all ravaged and killed. I was alone at home, except for my son, that morning. It was so terribly sad as they were 'my babies' and gave us delicious eggs as their gifts to the family. After all my years and all the losses I've gone through it is never easy. But grief can also be our solace. What if we did not 'feel' with our hearts?
What would we be if we were so inured that loss did not hurt? Its all part of our loving hearts. Accept your grief -- it will become less a part of your day and heart as time goes on. Know that you have hundreds of hearts out here in the world sharing your pain.
