Generosity

There are those who give little of the much which they have - and they give it for recognition and their hidden desire makes their gifts unwholesome.
And there are those who have little and give it all.
These are the believers in life and the bounty of life, and their coffer is never empty

~Giving, by Kahlil Gibran (from The Prophet)

In honor of Martin Luther King Day and in honor and memory of my father who shared his birth date, I always spend Martin Luther King's "Make a Difference Day" creating quilts, blankets, and other items for those in need on this day.

shown above:
Chairful of quilts from a community quilting group that I sewed and quilted with one to two days a week for five years. I was so committed to community quilting at that time that I would come home and sew for 5 hours a day for another two days. Boy, I got a lot done!

Now, I enjoy so many other art and textile art forms that I give one full day a week to community service plus one Saturday to fleece blanket making and quilting with Alexia's Cozy Covers as well as finishing up quilts for donation to others.

It's part of my roots of both sewing and quilting and never fails to lift me up to doing good in the world..or at least trying. You can make them and you can give them away..but you can only hope they can feel the love in each and every one of these!

Michele - what a lovely way to remember both your father and MLK. You are most wonderfully kind & generous spirit. Hugs (())

Thank you Viv, oh, that's the nicest thing for you to say! I had a bit of the blues yesterday and sewed through them. Luckily a bit of the blues, even lumpy and tear streaked ones only make the project I was working on all the more dearer :-)

Beautiful quilts -- and that they take with them the touch of your hands, a bit of your time, and the tears or laughter that you experienced while making them -- well that just makes them doubly special.
