You Can Be a Cowboy, Too!
Giddee up and go! with a super quick panel quilting. "Lil' Buckaroo" started out as a simple Daisy Kingdom panel and grew into a nice 42" x 61" baby quilt. A bit large to wrap a baby in, perhaps, but suitable for a crib, a large wall, or to place on the floor when the little one learns to roll over and crawl a bit.
I got a bit carried away with the free motion foot and filled all of the hills and valleys in abundance. That took far longer than the piecing of the borders of course, but once it was all filled in with such crumply wonderfulness, I was happy by the effect.
And another quick panel, without even adding borders "ABC, It's Simple as It Can Be". The result of an afternoon sewing for our Mid-Valley Quilt Guild in Salem, Oregon.
As our Community Service Chairperson, Jan, says "just make it up without borders, it's plenty big enough as it is." And it was!
Since our local hospital places preemie quilts on top of the isolettes not wrapping the tiny babies, keeping them small and simple speeds up the donation process, yet still adds a homemade touch with lots of cute quilts in each corner of the busy hospital nursery. So, the isolette/take home quilts need to be about 36" x36, bigger than most 'preemie' quilts. This one was more like 42" x42" but I couldn't leave any of the alphabet out ;)
Most of the (bigger) city nurseries will need 300-400 of these a month, so donating baby quilts is a wonderful way to give back as we count our blessings in having healthy children of our own. And many do give a quilt with every special needs baby if not every single baby. Check out your own local hospital for information.
Two more lovingly crossed of my December giving checklist. And more time to get back to my sewing with lots more quilts to make!

Panels are great for baby donation quilts. I used up the ones I had a long time ago. Now, I need to get back to sewing.
I love panels too when it comes to baby gifts for donations. I've done 3 this week, just have to sew the binding on the back and have another 2 to do before Sun. Then they all go to a very sweet lady from our church who distributes them for me on the northern reserves. The other neat thing, you can usually get panels for a good price if you watch in stores because they don't get bought as much as fabric does. Gotta love it when it's frugal too. Hugs and have fun quilting.

When I saw how many quilts you said you would make by New Years, I wondered about you LOL But now, you're sewing so quickly, I get it. You just plain get a lot done! Happy Holidays! Mary S.
