Breast Cancer Awareness: Free Patterns for Quilts and Quilt Block Updated

Because October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I have been collecting free quilt block or quilting patterns that feature breast cancer ribbons or other appropriate themes. It's good to remember that any quilt or quilt block pattern can be transformed into a breast cancer awareness or comfort quilt just by the selection of colors  pinks, roses, the peachy ballet pinks, and so on.

But for those wanting more, I have found these quilt block or quilt patterns that are available as free downloads. If you have additional ones that I might add to my list, please e-mail me your linking suggestions, as this is something near and dear to my heart!

Note: If you get a 404 on any of these (site not found) it's because some sites (like All People Quilt or McCalls Quick Quilts) are now requiring you join for free to save for free.

Pink Ribbons Quilt Blocks or Quilts for Breast Cancer Awareness:

Cancer Ribbon Quilt Block
This Cancer Awareness Ribbon quilt block is a foundation pieced pattern. The block isn't difficult to make, but it does contain long triangles that can be a little tricky to align on the foundation the first couple of times.Designed by Janet Wickell.

Heart With A Ribbon from Carol Doak:
The crossed ribbon has become the symbol for support of many causes. The pink ribbon symbol supports breast cancer awareness. This block shows both love and support by having the ribbon placed inside the heart. The pdf file is a 3" finished size paper-pieced block (two on a page) and the second page contains the cutting list for one block. This block is for personal use only.

Cancer Awareness Ribbon Colors for Other Diseases:

During Breast Cancer Awareness month, we see pink ribbons everywhere, and most of us know that this color represents breast cancer awareness.

But you might not be as familiar with the other ribbon colors that are used to promote awareness for the other cancers.

It's just as important to remember all of those we love, who face challenges from other forms of cancer, and to create not only increased awareness for those diseases but to create comfort quilts or pillows for them, as well.

Does anyone know what the color for endometrial cancer is?

Anonymous said...

I found a couple of websites that said Peach was the color for endometrial cancer.

The purple ribbon is also used for domestic violence, child abuse, and fibromyalgia awareness. :) Thank you for all the patterns - I've been wanting to create a quilt for my fibromyalgia support group, and these are just wonderful!

The quilts are gorgeous!!! I'm a 24 year old breast cancer survivor who's still in the fighting stages, and I'm thinking about taking my head scarves and making a quilt out of them. I really like the quilt design that incorporates all of the different ribbons for all of the different cancers- TOTALLY AWESOME!

Thank you for posting these patterns. Our family just lost a very special person to Breast Cancer last night. She was my sister's mother-in-lay and her very best friend. I am making a memory jar and I did not have any breast cancer ribbon fabric so I will be making the ribbon in the heart pattern for her memory jar. Can I link your blog to my breast cancer link page?
